News & polls

Informing and consulting the brethren

Sodalis gives the officers the means to communicate with the brethren: lodge and obedience news, polls to find a date or settle a question, and an e-mail digest. Each brother receives what concerns him, in his own language.

Two news feeds

Lodge news and obedience news each have their own feed on the brethren's home page. The editor handles formatting and images; artificial intelligence can help format, proofread or rewrite.

A news item can also be e-mailed to chosen recipients, each receiving it in his language.

News by degree

When writing, you tick the degrees concerned: Entered Apprentices, Fellow Crafts, Master Masons. A restricted item stays invisible to the other degrees everywhere — home page, search, assistant, digest and e-mail. Officers always see every item.

For what must never be written down, the spoken word remains the only channel: Sodalis does not replace what is passed on by mouth to ear.

Polls

A date poll finds an evening that suits everyone; a choice poll asks a question, with a number of places per option if needed. The brethren vote from their home page; a poll shared by public link also takes answers without an account.

  • Anonymous or named voting
  • Results hidden until one has voted, if you wish
  • Reminders to those who have not answered, by hand or automatically before closing
  • “Keep this date” closes the poll and announces the decision
  • Results e-mailed at closing, CSV export

The digest

Weekly, fortnightly or monthly, an e-mail digest can gather upcoming meetings, open polls, new papers and news. It goes out in each brother's language, and never when there is nothing to say.

Your questions

Can a news item be restricted to Master Masons?

Yes. Untick Entered Apprentices and Fellow Crafts: the item will appear to them neither on the home page, nor in search, nor in e-mails. A brother whose degree is not recorded does not see restricted items.

Can a poll be anonymous?

Yes. The brethren then do not see who answered what; the officers keep the full view to organise what follows.

Are the brethren told about new publications?

News appears on their home page. You can also send it by e-mail, and the periodic digest, if enabled, includes it.

Can someone outside the lodge answer a poll?

Yes, if the poll is shared by public link: the link is enough, no account needed. A members-only poll, on the other hand, requires signing in.
